Dentures
Giving You the Perfect Smile
Dentures are similar to dental implants, however, dentures can be easily removed. This removable replacement for missing teeth can take the place of all or some missing teeth and closely resemble the look of natural teeth and gums. There are two types of dentures available; complete and partial. Complete dentures replace all the teeth while partial dentures are used when some natural teeth remain in-tact. Dentures include artificial teeth and gums and are commonly adhered to the patients’ gums using paste. They can also be attached for permanent placement using dental implants.

The Process
The first step in the denture making process is to make an appointment with your Reno dentist to discuss if you are a good candidate for dentures. If it’s determined you would benefit from dentures then the dentist will take impressions of your tooth and bone structure to turn into a plaster model of your mouth. Next, the models are placed into an articulator which is a machine that is similar to the jawbone and is used to attach the teeth with a particular wax.
Your dentist will then shape the wax to mimic your teeth. The dentures are then placed in a holding device where plaster is poured over the molds to develop their shape. Once the plaster has been poured, the molds are placed in hot water to wash and melt away the remaining wax. After washing off the wax, the acrylic is applied to the molds and is cured to set. After the mold has solidified, the plaster is removed and the dental technician will trim off any leftover acrylic and polish the dentures. Your beautiful new dentures are then placed in your mouth and adjustments are made as necessary.
